January 15, 1850, letter written by A. Smith at the behest of Menominee chief Oshkosh to William H. Bruce, U.S. Indian subagent at Green Bay (1849-1851), requesting Bruce's presence in the aftermath of the Jan. 1 murder of Oshkosh's adopted son in Grand Rapids by Joseph Cayau, a Frenchman.
